A misconception a lot of Christians have is that "If I love Christ I should always be happy". And I want to explain why that's not 100% true. A verse just popped into my head right now and it's Ecclesiastes 3:4 "A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance."
A Christian goes through very similar struggles as a non-christian. We are all human and humans desire evil stuff. The human body is so complex and needs certain things to feel good and healthy (so we can't always blame everything on Satan...seriously).
It's ok to feel sad sometimes, you won't have pep in your step every single day. The thing is, don't sit and dwell in your sadness; find the root of the issue and get it figured out. We could easily let so many things distract us from living the beautiful, creative, lovely life that God has designed for us. He created us to feel...let's feel! Don't shove emotions to the side because you are trying to keep some Christian reputation.
Have those solid people around you who really understand you and share your deepest feelings. It is so freeing to share your deepest struggles and know you have people you trust praying for you. It's ok to feel.
Here is a little check list you can go through to try and find the root of why you may be feeling down.
- Are you reading the Bible & talking to God?
- Who have you been hanging out with? If they are sad or miserable it rubs off!
- Are you eating foods that will nourish your body?
- Are you working out and taking care of yourself?
- Are you getting wisdom from the wrong people?
- Are you taking time to relax and reflect on the blessings in life?
