Empathy

Empathy

Empathy. The ability to understand and share the feelings of another. A person who is empathetic is also considerate and kind. They put God and others before themselves. They think through how their actions and words are going to affect another person.

Have you ever heard of the term egocentric? It is the exact opposite of being empathetic. Egocentric means; thinking only of oneself, without regarding the feelings or desires of others.

It's very difficult to have a relationship with someone who is egocentric. They will constantly blame you and tell you that you aren't doing enough for them. You don't make them feel loved and it's their fault that you do what you do. Don't let this discourage you, have a heart of love for them and remember that their perspective stems from hurt; but don't stay too close to this person. Pray for God to open their eyes so that they can see the world from another perspective.

Evaluate your own heart; do you see things from a narrow-minded perspective? If you want to see change and resolution you must have empathy. You must put others before yourself and consider how they are feeling. Make it an effort to minister to others in everything you do.

The world would be a much better place if people could learn to have more empathy.
