I thought it would be awesome to journal the details of Shane & my wedding day so that one day I could look back and relive it through words. I also wanted to share it with you guys. This is the wedding day from my perspective...here it goes!
I woke up before my alarm and immediately a flood of emotions came over me. I tried processing what was about to go down that day. It was my last morning ever in my child hood home where I had lived since I was born. My friends Aubry Johnson and Alyssa Kliebert slept over to help keep me calm and it was so great getting to talk and dream about what this day was going to be like. I drove to Kaye Bennett's house (the wedding was at her house and she was a bridesmaid) she had Starbucks coffee and pastries from Panera waiting for us on the counter. wow. It was such a lovely morning getting ready with my best girls.
It was seriously such a perfect and calm morning. At this point I wasn't feeling nervous, I felt so calm and I was just anticipating being with Shane.
After hair & makeup we all loaded up in the car to head to the first look. Shane & I decided to do a first look so that we didn't have to take pictures in between the ceremony and reception. This is when the nerves really kicked in. I just COULDN'T wait to be with shane!
We went to the Orange Groves in Riverside CA, Shane was hidden in the middle of the groves with his back towards me. I walked up and stood behind him for a while then the photographer gave him the ok to turn around. In that moment everything became a reality. That morning it was hard to process it but once I met eyes with Shane it just all hit me. I couldn't believe I was getting to marry my best friend and favorite human ever. It was awesome.
We stood there hugging for a bit trying to soak it all in. I couldn't stop saying "You look like a Ken barbie" lol! Shane is the best.
After the first look we proceeded to take all the photos.
Now we headed back to Kaye Bennett's house to prepare for the actual wedding! After the first look we didn't see each other until I walked down the aisle.
Okay a little inside scoop is after the photos I felt so tired and just terrible. My bridesmaids surprised me with my favorite drink from Starbucks and my sister made me eat peanut butter for protein lol. But after sitting down for like 20min I felt great! My girls prayed with me right before it was time.
Best day ever. And that night Shane and I headed to the Hyatt in Newport then a couple days after that we stayed in Oahu for one week. Getting married was the best decision I have ever made. This magical day and that magical week and a half of vacationing was epic but getting to enjoy the simple things in life with Shane is so much more a blessing. There are so many things you can try to stay on top of to keep a relationship going like strong communication, laying your pride down each day to do things you don't necessarily want to do, putting technology aside to enjoy each other, going on dates, etc. But that can all get overwhelming. To have a successful relationship or marriage simply do this; each individual do whatever they can to follow Christ whole heartedly. Christ transforms and renews, all those things above that I listed will come naturally. Marriage is a beautiful thing, cherish your partner and look at them with respect and love.
